Developing happy, independent learners.

Aquinas and Old Town Montessori Schools foster independence, confidence and self-esteem in a warm and loving environment. Our hands-on approach engages the whole child and offers children the freedom to explore their natural curiosity and interests in an atmosphere of partnership and respect.

Not a traditional school environment.

Our flexible, individualized curriculum is designed to challenge, inspire and support each child’s unique learning style.
Our teachers’ AMI training allows them to master the true Montessori framework and tools for transformative teaching. They personalize education for each student while moving all forward. Our teachers understand how to develop your child’s independence, initiative, and skill building while guiding a classroom community to do great work. With our teachers’ guidance, our students develop into happy, independent learners with the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to succeed in their personal and educational journeys.
Enrichment opportunities in our elementary program like Spanish lessons, physical education (including swimming in our private heated pool), Great Books discussion groups, Latin program, Classics Club, and Drama Club, which culminates in a yearly musical, contribute to an exciting and well-rounded education.

What Our Parents Say!

It’s a gem of a school–fabulous staff and overall educational program. True Montessori learning, both of our children attend and adore school. We cannot say enough great things about Aquinas. We changed military assignments simply due to this excellent school! Two thumbs up!!

Our daughter attends the Aquinas Montessori school.
We couldn’t be happier, and our daughter can’t wait to go to school every morning. It is a very special place.

Aquinas & Old Town Montessori Schools

Aquinas Montessori is an established private school started in 1965. The campus is located in a suburban setting in Alexandria, Virginia near George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate, on a large parcel of wooded land where children play and garden. The school has six fully-equipped Montessori classrooms, a library, a playground, a sports field, a garden and a heated swimming pool, which is used for elementary PE classes and our summer camp. This original campus serves children from ages 3 to 12.

Old Town Montessori was established in 1987 at the request of our parents who lived in historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The building is a charming and perfectly restored townhouse, with two beautiful primary classroom environments and a generous outdoor courtyard with play equipment. It is a short 15-minute drive away from our larger Mount Vernon campus. This campus serves children from ages 3 to 6. Children from Old Town continue their elementary studies and participate in summer camp at the Aquinas Montessori School campus.
